EVHC Mobile Command Trailers

The Mobile Command trailer or MOBCOMM is one of two that the Eastern Virginia Healthcare Coalition has available thanks to joint ventures with Sentara Health System on the southside and Riverside Health System on the peninsula.

These trailers are available for use by coalition partners by calling the Regional Healthcare Coordination Center at (844) 757-7422 (RHCC).

If there is an event that impacts a healthcare facility in the region or if there is a mass casualty event in the community, the Mobile Command trailer can be deployed to support emergency operations. Onboard the MOBCOMM is a cache of handheld UHF and VHF radios and repeaters so when the antennas are put up, it becomes an instant communication network. The trailer is also equipped with a marine radio as well as the Virginia Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) which provides communications with VDOT, the Virginia State Police and other state agencies.

In addition, the trailer is equipped with an 800 megahertz (MHz) public safety radio that provides direct communications with all of the fire departments and specified Emergency Medical Services agencies in the Virginia eastern region. Using the Orion Overlay, it is possible to communicate with any public safety agency in Hampton Roads. The trailer is also equipped with a fixed satellite phone for use as a long range tertiary communication system. The installed satellite dish also allows for tertiary access to the internet and provides for data transmission in larger scale disaster situations where communications failures must be overcome.
