When a child presents in shock, it is imperative for the health care provider to be able to recognize shock, understand which type of shock it is and begin emergent treatment for it. Easy, right? Lets compare the main four categories of shock in the pediatric patient and discuss why it is not always so clear cut to figure out its etiology.

Dusty has over 25 yrs. experience in NICU, Peds ED, Pediatric CVICU, ECMO & trauma. She became a NREMT-P while serving as EMS Outreach coordinator at Children’s National in DC. Her focus has been on resuscitation & education of the critical ill and injured. She has served on EMS committees in DC, Md & Va. Dusty has presented at national seminars & has taught internationally, in Ukraine, Belarus, Haiti & Ecuador. Dusty now serves as the Training Director at the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council
