About

The mantra “Everyone goes home” is engrained in our EMS culture and is in the forefront of our minds all of the time on the job, as it should be. There’s a reason “Scene safe” is the first step in any TSOP or NREMT scenario. However, we need to expand on "Everyone goes home" to include “and everyone comes back tomorrow.” We need to set ourselves up for success by building resilience, and build upon the four pillars of resilience: mindset, purpose, balance and network. We also, as leaders and administrators, need to knock down barriers, create a resilient culture, and stop the stigma of first responder mental health in our agencies. In this talk we will dive in to what mindset, purpose, balance and network mean. We will talk about resilience, and look beyond that at a system level to create a culture that supports mental health and responder wellness. We will further explore “The Big Four” as a way to approach our careers in a patient centered way that improves our ability to better serve those that call upon us in their time of need.
