Coordinating the Emergency Medical Services System for Southeast Virginia.
Tidewater EMS Council plays an important role in ensuring that the highest levels of care, training and support are provided. Building and sustaining relationships with other healthcare partners and agencies in the area and around the state is integral to the contributions TEMS makes to the EMS system.

Additionally, TEMS is charged with conducting the Regional EMS Awards program each year which recognizes excellence in EMS and has also been instrumental in bringing a life-saving program, the Whole Blood Initiative, to the region.

Professional training, education and specialty programs designed to help deliver the highest quality of emergency care.
Tidewater Healthcare Expo
Each May, TEMS hosts a multi-day training Expo featuring nationally recognized speakers and more than 100 course offerings to earn Continuing Education credits. Networking with other healthcare professionals while engaging in advanced, hands on training makes the Expo stand out amongst conference opportunities. Saving Lives Whole Blood
As an organization with regional scope and a network of connections, TEMS was uniquely situated to pursue bringing Whole Blood delivered by EMS to the region. The process of delivering whole blood to trauma patients BEFORE they arrive at a hospital began with TEMS taking the lead on research and building partnerships to supply the program and develop protocols.
Quarterly Training Education Experience
One of the ways that TEMS is charged with improving the EMS System in the TIdewater Region is by offering regular opportunities for EMS providers to receive both foundational and advanced training instruction. The Quarterly Training Education Experience (QTEE) is a FREE one-day session to earn CEUs and enhance skills through interesting, advanced level, hands-on training.
Hampton Roads Metropolitan Medical Response System
The Strike Team, a component of the HHMMRS or Hampton Roads Metropolitan Medical Response System, is an all-hazard response team which offers training and leadership opportunities to its members. This team is trained and equipped to provide operational assistance and expertise to Incident Commanders dealing with the medical effects of a mass casualty incident and impact on the healthcare systems and resources of the region.
