What is an Operational Medical Director (OMD)? This is a doctor who, after being vetted through the Office of EMS, selects an EMS agency to support and provide guidance for:

  • interpersonal relationships between their agency and the hospitals
  • patient care

How does the OMD support the region? By coming to the four meetings a year held by TEMS, they collaborate with each other to discuss the successfulness of current protocols, suggest new interventions/procedures based on the latest studies, correct inconsistencies in care, and help define the scope of practice for the regions’ providers.

What should I do if I have a praise or complaint regarding patient care or if I would like a protocol reviewed? Fill out this form.

What is the job Description of an Operational Medical Director?

What happens when a new treatment or protocol is needed? The OMD’s agree on the regions direction for providers and the Education and Training Committee creates the training documents/protocols to support in the rollout of the new initiative. These are then passed through the OMD committee and the Medical Operations Committee for approval.

Which TEMS employee supports this group? Currently, you can reach out to Valerie Vagts at vagts@vaems.org with any questions.

Thanks for all you do!
